Deputy Director, Refinery (Malaysia)
We are partnering with a leading player in the renewable fuels sector to appoint a Deputy Director for a large-scale biorefinery in Malaysia. This is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing production operations within a complex continuous processing environment, supporting the delivery of sustainable fuel solutions to global markets.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day production operations, ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable plant performance
- Develop and execute production plans aligned with feedstock availability, customer demand, and logistics requirements
- Monitor and drive KPI performance across production, ensuring targets for output, quality, and efficiency are achieved
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including supply chain, logistics, and commercial to ensure seamless operations
- Build, lead, and develop a high-performing production team, including workforce planning and training
- Implement and maintain robust process control systems and operational standards to optimise performance
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, reduce downtime, and improve cost efficiency
- Champion health, safety, and environmental standards, acting as the primary HSSE lead within production
- Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and industry best practices
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
- 10+ years of experience in production operations within refining, petrochemical, or chemical processing environments
- Minimum 5 years in a leadership or managerial role within a continuous process facility
- Strong operational experience in refinery or chemical plants; exposure to hydrotreating or similar processes is advantageous
- Proven ability to manage production planning, scheduling, and performance optimisation
- Strong leadership and team management capabilities, with experience building and developing teams
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a hands-on approach to operational challenges
- Strong understanding of HSSE principles and commitment to maintaining a safe working environment
